On Selling Our House And Where We're Going

We’ve sold our house. We’ve lived here for 8 years and as you can imagine, a lot of life has happened in that time. I'm feeling all sorts of sentimental about leaving behind this place where both our babies were born. So, yes, I’M HAVING A LOT OF FEELINGS. Okay, now that I got that out of me, I will share a bit more about where we’re at and where we’re going!

In September, pretty much on a whim, we looked at a house that was for sale. I fell in love with the house and I started thinking about what it would be like to move. We realized that with the way the housing market is here, we’d be able to get a good price for our house and if we bought a cheaper house that needs some fixing up, it could help us pay off some debt, lower our monthly bills and we’d have some money to make the house our own.

We really liked the idea of downgrading for a few years while our kids are little to save some money & we felt at peace about this whole thing so we took the leap of faith and started this new adventure.

Long story short, we worked hard with help from friends to get our current house ready for sale. We put it on the market two days before Christmas. A couple of weeks later, it sold. Then we learned that the house we wanted sold just before ours did (it had sat on the market for all this time and I was really hoping we could snag it up) and I was super bummed.

Then we realized that there would be no other houses in our price range in our city so we started looking elsewhere and that’s how we ended up buying a tiny but cute house in a town 20 minutes from where we live now. So we’re moving from Niagara Falls to Fort Erie.

So, that’s where we’re at now! The closing date is next month.

Our new house is a third smaller than our current home.

Our kids are not getting any smaller.

We’ll see how this goes. :)

But all joking aside, we're excited for a new adventure! Even having less space is something I'm happy with (more on that in a future post). And we're definitely excited to explore our new town especially when the weather warms up!

I can't wait to fill our new house with vintage finds, DIYs & locally made items and make it cozy in a way that is 'us'. And of course, we'll also buy stuff from big box stores that are easy on the budget (I'm looking at you IKEA!). As you might expect, I've been doing lots of thinking about the overall feel and vision for the house. I can't wait to share more about that with you!

Until next time! xox

My Five Favourite New IKEA Finds

The new IKEA catalogue is on-line and I had so much fun browsing it! I always love seeing what new products they come up with and how they style them.

Here are my five favourites of the new products:

While these are technically two different products, they're both chalkboards so I can put them together, right? I think these designs are really fun and I love the functionality of the one at the top (the MALARNA).  The worldmap chalkboard (the MOLLTORP) is perfect for planning trips or for people who have friends and family across the world and want to mark their locations.

The GRONADAL rocking chair would be the perfect addition to a nursery or sunroom! I just love this design and the look of wicker with powder-coated steel.

I'm in love with the vintage, industrial look of the KULLABERG swivel chair!  I hardly ever see office chairs I really like so I was really pleasantly surprised to come across this one. The website says it's comfortable too and I look forward to trying it out on my next IKEA trip.

You can use the FLADIS basket with the handles up or down as in the picture below - how cool is that? It looks like a completely different basket! I think it's such a lovely shape for a basket and the new design (they had it only in one colour before) adds a bit of graphic flair. I love it and it's going on my wish list!

The FLISAT doll house is totally on my radar because my kids are at the age that they love these kinds of things, but just look at how cute it is!  I also like that you can use it as a shelf or as a dollhouse and you can use it on the floor or attach it to the wall. And you can buy the cutest miniature IKEA furniture sets for it! Oh my heart, I will be keeping this in mind for my daughter's birthday!

I hope you enjoyed this round-up of IKEA finds. Tell me, what is YOUR favourite IKEA product?
